From May 18 to 23, various stakeholders from Latin America took part in a business tour through Germany and the Netherlands. Organized by the International Hydrogen Ramp-Up Programme (H2Uppp), implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), the tour provided a dynamic platform to strengthen cooperation between Latin American producers and European stakeholders in the renewable hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) sectors.

The trip featured a full agenda of technical visits, public-private dialogues, and bilateral matchmaking sessions. Delegations visited industrial sites such as Thyssenkrupp Steel and the Marl Chemical Park, and participated in a networking event at Duisport, which highlighted Germany’s progress in building an integrated hydrogen and PtX value chain, while also exploring collaboration opportunities with Latin American partners.

A key milestone within the Roadshow was the participation in the event “Renewable Hydrogen Business Opportunities in Latin America”, held on May 22nd during the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam.

The session is organized by the Embassies of the Kingdom in The Netherlands in Latin America and their Regional Business Development (RBD) team and H2Uppp Programme of the (BMWE and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, supported by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), Holland House Colombia and the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs).

Throughout the day, project developers, offtakers, development banks, and other institutions shared experiences and explored opportunities to scale up the development of renewable hydrogen in the region. More than 150 matchmaking meetings took place between Latin American and European stakeholders, laying the groundwork for new strategic partnerships and technological cooperation.

Dr. Christian Storost, Head of the International Hydrogen Ramp-Up Division at BMWE, emphasized the strategic value of these efforts:

“The side event in Rotterdam and the Roadshow has been a valuable platform to connect key stakeholders from the renewable hydrogen ecosystem across Latin America and Europe. At BMWE, we firmly believe that the global energy transition cannot succeed without strong and strategic international partnerships.

Germany sees Latin America as a region with tremendous potential to become a reliable partner in the green hydrogen supply chain, and events like this one demonstrate the growing and concrete commitment from governments, industry, and civil society.

We will continue working actively—together with partners like GIZ and our counterparts across the region—to turn dialogue into projects, investment, and technological solutions that accelerate a sustainable and inclusive hydrogen economy.”

For Khrystyna Kasyanova, Business Development Hydrogen from RP Global:

“The roadshow organized by GIZ was a great exchange between companies from Latin America and Europe on green hydrogen projects. We met colleagues with whom we work in our public – private partnerships, technology and equipment suppliers, visited innovative green hydrogen sites in Germany, and had useful matchmaking with other private and public institutions. We had a possibility to speak at the panel on Renewable Hydrogen and shared the experience of applying high environmental, social, and quality standards as a way to overcome challenges in project development”.

“Renato Marques Cabral, Manager of E-Fuels at Eletrobras (CMNSC) ROM Brazil, and one of the participants in the Roadshow, highlighted its practical impact:”

“The Roadshow in Germany and the Netherlands from May 18th to 23rd was very important for Eletrobras to deepen discussions between the hydrogen/PtX generation and distribution value chain. The visits to Thyssenkrupp Steel and Marl Chemical Park, and the visit and Match Making held at Duisport demonstrated how the chain for the use of green hydrogen and PtX is being built and the potential for use in Germany. Meetings with potential commercial partners were important to mature the possibilities of starting production of green hydrogen and PtX.”

According to Andrea Arrobo, Hydrogen Business Manager at TW Solar:

“The experience has been very enriching, as it allowed us to closely interact with key European stakeholders. We were able to connect with players across the entire hydrogen value chain, which strengthens our visibility and ability to take action.

Being part of the roadshow delegation allowed us to rethink our corporate strategy and ground ourselves in the reality of the vast Colombian market, which we must prioritize in the first instance.”

The H2Uppp Programme continues to promote early-stage project development and market partnerships for green hydrogen in Latin America, turning technical potential and political will into investment, collaboration, and sustainable climate solutions.
